The best way to save money and buy exactly what you need

Okay, this opinion won’t be popular with the capitalists amongst us, but I care not! It is, however, the very best way (or perhaps it’s just an ADHD thing) to ensure you’re not buying things you don’t need or not being wise with what you can fit into your home! Here’s what you do…

Open a new browser window and go to the Black Friday Pinterest Board. Then once you find what you want to look at, you can open it in a new tab and keep all of your finds open – you may end up with hundreds like me, so be careful! DO NOT BUY YET! Now, go fill up a cart in each with the stuff you want – go on, nothing bad will happen. REMEMBER, DON’T PRESS BUY just yet! Okay, keep filling in each store, as your heart desires… Now here’s the trick.

Wait a day (DON’T WAIT TOO LONG and miss the sale prices though!!). You’ll trick your brain into believing you’ve got what you wanted. You’ll scratch the buying itch and you’ll calm down a bit. Now, go back into each cart. Look closely at each thing you’ve selected. Do you REALLY need it? Is it actually going to make your life better? Will your SOUL be filled if you add this to your home? Are you happy to AfterPay this for the next 2 months? Will you be happy looking at your purchase thinking of that credit card bill?

The answer to these questions only you will know, but you’ll be less likely to buy in the heady rush of serotonin filling your brain and more likely to be wise with your purchases. Once you’ve sucked the very last of the marrow from the sales go over each cart and add it all up (roughly, I mean you don’t have to be weird about it!) and see if you can afford it and see if you REALLY, REALLY need what you’ve chosen.

Good. Now you can press BUY and you won’t be adding crap you don’t need: only what you want or actually need (or your soul won’t be fulfilled without) and your home, the planet and your anxiety will thank you for being wise this Black Friday!

And remember, even when the sales are done, you can still keep up-to-date with your new favourite Australian home decor and furniture retailers by saving them into your browser and subscribing to their emails.
