Mixing Modern & Vintage to Create your own Eclectic Style

This eclectic living room full of different era furniture and decor works perfectly to create interest and a classic feel

I created this board just a few weeks back because I felt that I needed a separate place for my own style and one that I encourage clients to get on board with. Get inspired by this board full of the masters in mixing old and new, the beautiful and the practical and adding big punches of personality to create bespoke rooms that always inspire.

I’m currently obsessed with sharing my own, and others, eclectic style. I just love this way of creating a real, interesting and fun home because it combines the history of a family – with antique, vintage or retro pieces handed down or purchased for their classic style – with the optimism of the future – with current pieces that speak to the people inhabiting the spaces.

Displaying Artwork

Artwork doesn’t just consist of pieces for the wall. Art can be displayed in any room and the important thing is to show it off!

I’ve also been looking at new and interesting ways to display all types of art in the home. Not just wall art and pieces to pop onto a tabletop, but larger more sculptural pieces and the best way to show them off!

The Dining Area

Dining rooms can be formal or casual or a wonderful and eclectic mix of the two, as this one shows

One of my favourite rooms to design is the dining area. Regardless of whether it’s a separate room, the area off the kitchen or a space in the kitchen (I keep banquette’s in a separate board if you need inspiration there) for a more casual meal, I’ve been adding inspiration aplenty this week!

The Bedroom

The citrus palette is perfect for a feminine Floridian bedroom that is full of sunshine and warmth

As I’m constantly trying to find the right balance between stunning, a bit over-the-top, and “colour saturated but done in a way that will work when it’s over 40C here in Melbourne” I’m always on the lookout for a fabulous bedroom and something a little bit different. I’ve been hitting the Pin It button a fair bit on that one this week too!
